How we research
Each guide starts from real usage: how a phrase appears in published writing, professional correspondence and everyday speech. We look at register (formal, neutral, informal), the situations a phrase suits, and the situations where it reads oddly.
Where dictionaries and style guides disagree, we describe the disagreement rather than picking a side silently.
How we write
Every guide leads with a short, direct answer, then explains the alternatives with tone labels, nuance notes and example sentences you could actually send.
We avoid padding, invented statistics and grammar jargon that adds nothing to the decision you are making.
Review process
A second editor reviews each guide for accuracy, tone labelling and clarity before publication. Guides display the author, the reviewer, and both the published and last-updated dates.
Updates and corrections
Language shifts, so we revisit guides periodically and after reader feedback. When a correction changes meaning, we update the guide and its updated date.

Independence
Our recommendations are not for sale. We do not accept payment to include, exclude or favour any phrasing, product or organisation.
Privacy and terms
We collect only what we need to run the site and respond to messages you send us. We do not sell personal information.
